Santosh and Sax is a smooth and soulful vocals and saxophone duo formed by Kaela Santosh and Kostas S. Kostas, who is a highly talented musician. He plays saxophone and piano. He studied music in the UK at university level and teaches music in a local secondary school. They began their collaboration purely by accident when they were asked to work together to cover a colleagues absence in one of the local hotels. They met for the first time just 15 minutes before going on stage with no rehearsal but their love of soulful sounds and melodic performance style was a great match. Their experience and ability to respect another musician's place in each duet made it work and their musical chemistry was felt by all, including they themselves and so, they decided to continue their collaboration and polish it.

The Paphos Big Band was formed in 2016 by David Locke under the musical direction of George Morfitis to recreate the fabulous big band sounds of the 1940’s. Big band music was inspired by the great Duke Ellington Band and developed during that flourishingly creative era of song writing by many others. Woody Herman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton and many more and of course, the legendary Glenn Miller.

The songs written during that era, many of them for Broadway stage shows and Hollywood films, have been encapsulated in what has come to be called The Great American Song Book written by legendary songsmiths, the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin Richard Rogers etc. Such was the quality of the writing that many of the songs were taken up by jazz musicians and became what are now called Standards for that genre.

Our programme will include some of the songs from great movies of the past: there have been so many over the years. The band have included selections from a wide spectrum of music including West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Grease, Blues Brothers, Pink Panther, James Bond as well as doffing our cap to Basie, Miller and Ellington on the way. The 18-piece band with (five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones piano, bass, guitar and drums supporting our vocalists) will provide an insight into a fabulous period of musical creation. The band members combine young and old from student to veteran and cross international boundaries from UK to Cyprus via Ireland Chile and Greece all playing together to make a great evening of legendary music.

Directions: On the main road from Pegeia towards Agios Georgios. DARCY’S RESTAURANT & LOUNGE, St Georges Avenue, Pegeia. Tel: 26936926. Email: darcys2018@gmail.com, Facebook: @donaldcyp.

Studying with Anna Noakes, Margaret Campbell and Alan Baker, she was runner-up in the conservatoire’s prestigious Soloist’s Competition performing the Reinecke Concerto, and was a finalist in the Harold Clarke Woodwind Competition. She is a past winner of the Stratford East London Music Festival Concerto Competition, performing the Ibert Concerto. A versatile orchestral musician, Zara performs regularly with the East Anglia Chamber Orchestra, and the Academy of St Mary-le-Bow in London. Other contemporary projects have included performing with Parallax Orchestra in their collaboration with band Bring Me The Horizon at the Royal Albert Hall, works by Steve Reich under the direction of Colin Currie at the Southbank Centre, and for Trinity Laban projects at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Zara is also a keen chamber musician; she has most recently performed as a duo with harpist Bethan Griffiths, and with her flute quartet, Incanto.
