TONI KRAHL

Sunday 19 May 7pm

House of Arts and Literature Paphos

Tickets: €12, in German

Reservations: Tel: 99230262

Toni Krahl comes to Cyprus! As singer of the rock band CITY, Toni Krahl has been reviving the German music scene for 45 years now. With four golden and one platinum record CITY is one of the most consistent bands in Germany. Even in Greece they were honoured with a "golden one". With their current album "Das Blut so laut" ("The Blood So Loud"), they once again reached front chart positions and successfully toured Germany in 2017/18. Toni Krahl, the protagonist, singer and author of the band, has written down his personal experiences as well as those of the band and published them successfully in his book "Toni Krahl's Rock legends". It is more than a biography, as it describes the experiences and arguments in three very different countries of Germany. First in the GDR, connected with Stasiknast and censorship, later in the "old" FRG as a border crosser between the systems and finally in the new unified Germany, as an artist and entrepreneur. Only armed with his book and guitar Toni Krahl will be on stage 50 times during his musical reading tour. Toni keeps picking up the guitar, while he chats with the presenter Kai Suttner and anecdotes as well as pensive from the 45-year CITY life to the best. His stage presence at the Cyprus events is musically supported by his bandmate and exceptional violinist Don Joro Gogow. Thus, for the first time AM FENSTER, the biggest success of CITY, and other hits will be heard live on the island.

Directions: Head down the Polis road to Papantoniou supermarket and turn right at the lights, go over the staggered crossroads and the venue will be found on the right with on street parking opposite and a car park just past Ananas 8bit Coffee, on the right. He studied music in the UK at university level and teaches music in a local secondary school. They began their collaboration purely by accident when they were asked to work together to cover a colleagues absence in one of the local hotels. They met for the first time just 15 minutes before going on stage with no rehearsal but their love of soulful sounds and melodic performance style was a great match. Their experience and ability to respect another musician's place in each duet made it work and their musical chemistry was felt by all, including they themselves and so, they decided to continue their collaboration and polish it.

An Evening of Motown, Soul, Pop, Reggea, R&B, Funk, Salsa and Dance club Raphael Orlando Tate (born February 18, 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. His debut single “With Every Beat of My Heart” (released in late 2017) peaked at number 25 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs in America. Raphael grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland with 10 siblings. Raphael’s musicality originated from his religious family background. He was inspired early on by his father Robert and his mother Patricia who lead worship services in their local network of churches. His father also played saxophone and sang professionally for R&B groups before devoting himself to the church as an assistant pastor. Music performance, evolved into Raphael's greatest passion. He joined marching band in high school, and learned how to read, write, arrange, and compose music. He started out as a percussionist and continued on to learn the tuba/sousaphone. Raphael excelled rapidly on the tuba. He accepted a music scholarship to attend Morgan State University in Baltimore County, Maryland. During this period, he was featured in the (2002) film Head of State performing with a brass band composed of his colleagues. After college Raphael travelled the world and eventually settled on the island of Cyprus. He lived there for several years while developing his craft and ultimately matured into an all around producer, singer, and bandleader. Eventually he was discovered by Eve Efrat (owner of Public Relations firm Arieli) and Jason Dauman.
